Why Do Recumbent Trikes Work So Well?
On a normal bike, vibrations and shocks travel along your spine. This sitting arrangement may result in the compression of nerves and blood vessels in the vulnerable area of the body called the perineum. This in turn can lead to temporary or permanent groin numbness, tingling sensations and a few other not so pleasant problems. These road shocks are effectively absorbed over an area of about 200 x 100mm (200cm2 or 8″ x 4″), if you’re lucky.
The main advantage of recumbent bike seating is the road shocks are absorbed across a greatly increased area of your torso. Riding in a recumbent seat* can be as comfortable as sitting in your favourite armchair. The recumbent trike or bike cushions your ‘seat’ and back, right up to your shoulders. OK, maybe a full arm chair is pretty good but a recumbent trike actually gets you out and about – in real life!
For us, a recumbent trike has meant a new world, literally!
A few things that determined why we are dealing with recumbent trikes:
- Being stopped on the road or footpath by someone asking: what is that, where did you get it, can I try it…
- the immense difference it has made at this house, and everyone in the family loves the effect and trikes
…is why we are and importantly why we want and how we are qualified to support others in finding their way into recumbent trikes. You too can have the opportunity to exercise, explore and enjoy your world through Queensland Recumbent -> Recumbent Company!
We’re Here to Help You!
We understand the difficulties in getting the right seat and wheels under you, especially when physical limitations are in play. We know this from both personal experience as well as from the experiences of clients.
Over the years, we have had many wonderful experiences here at Queensland Recumbent -> Recumbent Company as clients who have come with great difficulties getting around, have left with very big smiles on their faces. Many have thought that riding a recumbent trike was beyond them only to be thrilled by the discovery that they could ride!
They’ve come with walkers, walking sticks or a helping hand and encouragement from a loved one.
As Eric says …
“I’m a bit dependent on wheels. It’s more my back and neck that create the issues for me as I am lucky I can pedal quite OK. I need a system that allows for road bounce, vibrations and maximum torso support or I can’t get very far down the road. ie: must have at least rear suspension…
My physical situation gives a great understanding of people feeling frustrated about finding or trying a solution (trike) that may work for them. Not being able to talk to someone about this strange new recumbent world goes away here. Not many businesses want to spend time talking, but we will!”
Who is a Recumbent Trike For?
Everyone! Recumbent trikes are a great comfortable and safe method of moving around.
When you need to stop, you can sit right where you are with no balance or seat surface area issues.
A recumbent trike uses essentially the same components as a bike. Though if someone tells you recumbents
and bikes are the same thing, they probably haven’t ridden a recumbent trike. Come try one.
